Core Therapy was established by Cora O Brien. Cora is a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist who is a fully accredited member of Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP)

I am based in the much loved town of Listowel Co. Kerry.

I have spent the last 9 years setting up Pieta House in Kerry. As well as setting up the centre I also managed all aspects of running this service in Kerry for 3 years. Since stepping out of this position I can devote more of my time to Core Therapy, continued training and education.

I have experience in helping people with a wide variety of issues; together we explore and investigate these issues. I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgmental and relaxed environment. I am aware that it can be quite daunting coming for counselling for the first time but I can assure you that I will endeavour to make it as easy and comfortable as possible for you.

I offer one to one and couple counselling. I offer long and short term counselling.

My approach to counselling is primarily Humanistic and is person centered which means that I provide an atmosphere of support, empathy, and trust that allows you to share your feelings without fear of judgment.

I integrate visualisation, art, sand and mindfulness in the process. I draw from my own personal life experience and other counselling methods and psychotherapy models using techniques such as:

• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT):

This style can help manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It is goal orientated and problem focused. It emphasizes the present and aims to teach the client how thoughts can influence emotions and behaviors. It is most commonly used to help with anxiety and depression.

• Gestalt Therapy:

Which helps focus on self-awareness: on what is happening from one moment to the next or, as we often say, in the Here and Now. Increased awareness and understanding of the present, of one’s immediate thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and of patterns of relating can bring about powerful change and new perspectives.

• Solutions Focused Therapy:

This form of therapy focuses on solutions instead of problems. Identifying the problems, and working together to come up with the possible solutions
